10 Reasons People Resist Change

by Tarek Fahmy

Mappy Awards September 2015 'BUSINESS' Winner by Tarek FahmyMad Mapper’s Muse: This comes from a new winner here at the Mappy Awards – prolific mind mapper Tarek Fahmy, who has contributed 178 pieces to Biggerplate as I type! Way to go Tarek.

Here he has produced an excellent summary of a particularly interesting and revealing topic: why people resist change, particularly in a professional context. Imagine the company which suddenly announces an unexpected change of leadership or direction or responsibility and you’ll get the idea.

What’s cool about the map is that it not only includes ten key worries people typically have when faced with unexpected turbulence in their lives, but offers ten accompanying remedies too. Having your cake and eating it. What more could you ask for?

Tarek’s map is colourful, nicely illustrated, clearly laid out and not over-stuffed with info. Perfect!

Plant Parts

by Daniel Tay

Mappy Awards September 2015 'EDUCATION' Winner by Daniel TayMad Mapper’s Muse: OK, I’m going to lay off Daniel’s amazing mind maps soon, but not just quite yet!

I couldn’t resist sharing this one in the autumny month of September here in France, as the leaves turn to brown and red and sudden showers abound.
It’s quite funny really, because apart from it being a great map, the thing that really sets it apart and makes it exceptional is… the tree.

Plant _Parts_275I took the liberty of detreeing it just to show you the difference a well-chosen visual theme can make. Click on the image on the left for a bigger version. Daniel will probably slap my wrist for doing so… ==>?

Adding any background you like is one of the software’s great features, and it’s surprising how few people actually make use of this. I understand that the majority of folks aren’t necessarily trying to be amazingly artistic, but when someone does, and does so with panache, as Daniel has done here, how glorious the results can be.

? Happy autumn to you all! ?

How To Have A Great Day

by Marianne Stefanco Strait

Mappy Awards September 2015 'PERSONAL' Winner by Marianne Stefano StraitMad Mapper’s Muse: Marianne is a new mind mapper, just got her paws on a steaming hot copy of iMindMap 8, has very wisely joined our wonderful Mind Map Mad Discussion Group and is having great fun letting her positive creativity let rip. And I’m loving it!

This is one of her first effervescent experiments and it’s just the sort of thing I enjoy: a simple-yet-profound inspiring snapshot of how we should be living our lives. Of course, like some of my own maps, this is an idealised vision of a perfect life. It can’t be that good all the time!

As far as I’m concerned, though, it’s great to have these tools to remind us of certain things we are probably not doing right, and some ways to sort that out, even if it’s just one or two at a time.

Marianne only joined our Facebook discussion group a few days ago but already I’m appreciating her enthusiasm and lively contributions. So in the Have A Great Day spirit, I thank you, Marianne, for sharing your creation, I’m smiling as I smell the flowers and oh, have a hug and keep up the good work ?.

Author’s Comment: The How to Have a Great Day map was created because, as a life coach, I see very clearly how doing (just a few) small things differently can improve not only your day, but your life! It’s a message I work hard to help others grasp and live.

Filled with enthusiasm for the ‘effervescent’ maps I had just discovered – I decided that the very best way to share this lesson was with a bright and sunny map.

I filled it chock full of little ways to help you improve your mood.  Choose just a couple, every day, and you’ll find that your day – and your life – will be a bit sunnier!

I also hope that just looking at this map will help make your day brighter and more fun!

About me…

I am a life coach who is passionate about helping people, especially those who are surrounded by negativity, to find their inner strength, confidence and the courage to create a better life; to re-claim their inner power, something most have forgotten they have.

It’s my plan – with these maps – to offer an easy, visually appealing, way to do just that.

I discovered traditional mind mapping several years ago and have used it extensively for planning my courses, coaching programs, marketing funnels , goals and personal ‘to do lists’.  While it’s helped me tremendously, the maps I created lacked visual appeal.

When I discovered an artistic, creative side to mind mapping I instantly fell in love.

I see mind mapping’s power to help my clients learn new concepts and ideas, and reinforce the lessons and insights they have in our sessions.

Yes, Sab is right, I am over the top enthusiastic about mind mapping and I love the creative outlet it’s given me. Even more exciting – my clients LOVE the maps and some have even asked me for their own personalized maps!  (Custom Mind Maps is born!)

I want to thank all those creative mappers out there who have inspired me. You are awesome! I hope I can create lots of maps that will inspire future mappers as you have inspired me.

I am deeply honored to be this month’s PERSONAL category winner! It has made today a ‘Great Day’ for me!

Nature’s Pharmacy

by Mohammed Haboubi

Mappy Awards September 2015 'GENERAL' Winner by Mohammad HaboubiMad Mapper’s Muse: This is great – not only is it wonderfully illustrated, but the message it delivers is both highly practical (food that’s good for us and why), but there is a delightful twist which I’ll let you discover by perusing Mohammed’s marvellous map yourself!

As if that weren’t enough, the author has used one of the iMindMap software’s cool features to produce a video to go with it. Check it out on YouTube HERE and let us and him know what you think in our friendly Mind Map Mad Facebook Group – he’s One of Us, you see..!

Mohammed’s also generously made big, and I mean B-I-G versions available on Dropbox too, if clicking on the image above isn’t enough for you. Many thanks, and keep on creating on 😀

English Verbs

by Anne Baudouin

Mappy Awards September 2015 'ENGLISH' Winner by Anne BaudouinMad Mapper’s Muse: Another nice one from Anne – and there are two reasons why I chose this one.

The first reason is that once again she has taken a nice, clear, thematically organised subset of English and illustrated it wonderfully.

And the second reason (Rant Alert!) is that I’m still having terrible problems finding English language teaching mind maps which aren’t just a list of words arranged in a circle… Grrr ?

Somehow, maybe in conjunction with my English teaching site, Fun English Lessons, I’m going to force a few educators to put their creativity to use, mind mappingly speaking that is.

If YOU know of any great English teaching or English language themed software-aided mind maps worthy of the name, then Let Me Know pronto!

7 Habits Tree

by Peter Te Riele

Mappy Awards September 2015 'KIDS' Winner by Peter Te RieleMad Mapper’s Muse: We’ve already had one pretty spectacular tree in this month’s Mappy Awards, and here’s another!

This time it’s highlighting the Sean Covey (son of Stephen) book, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids.

According to the book’s blurb, thanks to ‘a cast of lovable characters such as Lily Skunk and Sam Squirrel, children will be introduced to the 7 habits through seven fun and accessible stories’… sounds good to me!

Peter has basically borrowed the images from the 7 Habits book (as I understand it) and incorporated them into a simple mind map. So why am I featuring his map this month?

Simple. Because it immediately grabbed my attention with its colours and fun approach. AND introduced me to what looks like a great book which I’m thoroughly looking forward to getting stuck into as I love this sort of approach to life. I read the original 7 Habits book a long time ago, and it’s high time I had a refresher on this classic modern self-help book.

I’m also including a like to Peter’s blog below because, despite it being in Dutch and not understanding a thing, it’s got a neat display which you might find amusing!

Rule of Three

by Philippe Packu

Mappy Awards September 2015 'FUN' Winner by Philippe Packu!Mad Mapper’s Muse: Packuman is back, you man! Sorry. But here’s another fun creation from Mappy Awards favourite, Philippe Packu, from Belgium.

Unlike many of Philippe’s magnificent meanders, his Rule of Three, above, is a relatively straightforward iMindMap. Beautiful by default, in other words!

So the real interest lies in the topic, a fun and frivolous collection of things that come in threes. They’re everywhere.

Three is actually one of my absolutely favourite numbers. Two’s a bit terse and four’s getting boring, but three – ahhh, thoughtful three 🙂

I can imagine using this idea as a brilliant brainstorm with kids when teaching them English.

My English teaching site is called Fun English Lessons (three words) and its slogan is Fast ~ Effective ~ Fun, three again. Mind Map Mad is also a proud Club of Three member!

Long live the Rule of Three, and BTW (by the way), if you wanna delve deeper, read Philippe’s explanatory article on his Draw Me An Idea blog and peruse some of the fascinating sources referenced there too.

Cinderella Story

by Evelyn Lim

Mappy Awards September 2015 'HANDMADE' Winner by Evelyn LimMad Mapper’s Muse: Evelyn’s Cinderella Story mind map is a truly delightful celebration of this timeless tale with a healthy dose of humour thrown in for good measure.

Cinderella maps out and sketches all the things she needs to do to prepare for the upcoming ball, including such delicate details as washing her hair, losing a bit of weight and of course not forgetting to smile at the prince!

In a thoroughly modern (new) age twist she considers e-mailing the fairy godmother and calling on the ‘Law of Attraction’ in order to try and influence events.

The whole thing is marvellously illustrated and coloured, and I’m only disappointed I can’t find any more maps by Evelyn to enjoy. She has an interesting ‘feel good’ web site and there are literally hundreds of inspiring illustrated quotes on her Facebook page so check it out and feel as good as Cinderella when her foot slips effortlessly into that slim glass slipper (the diet must have worked 😉
