mappy awards grand winner 2015 badgeMad Mapper’s Muse: I’m excited and delighted to name Asad Mahmood’s marvellous Thanksgiving Mind Map as our 2015 Grand Winner – well done Asad!

We appreciate this map for several reasons and on various levels which we can all note and be inspired by:

    • The whole thing is a joy to behold as well as being packed with interesting, informative content

    • It follows solid guidelines for learnable maps such as a meaningful central image, lively colours, single ideas on tapering branches and a clear, straightforward structure

    • Every unit of information has been brilliantly personalised in unique and highly memorable ways

    • Because it’s hand-drawn, harking back to the origins and true power (and charm) of the totally individualised mind map

    • This may be misplaced or inappropriate to mention but there’s something thought-provoking about someone like Asad from Pakistan creating such a cheerful map on a thoroughly American festival in these troubled times

  • Because the time and effort needed must have been significant and the drawing skills and inventiveness just simply deserve recognition!

Well done Asad and I hope we will be seeing other great maps from you in the future – you have a real gift. ?

Author’s Comment: I truly enjoyed making the Thanksgiving Mind Map as I felt that many of my friends and family members here in Pakistan were unaware of the history of the holiday, the regions where it is celebrated and the traditions that are followed during the celebration.

I felt that I could cover all the basic elements of the holiday, on a single and attractive Mind Map in order to help people understand the holiday.

The many colourful images were especially fun to draw and coming up with creative ways to create associations, was a challenging but entertaining process.

After drawing the Mind Map, as a work project, I was so proud of the job that I had done, that I posted it on my Facebook account and was delighted to see the response of people commenting on how interesting it looked, and sharing it with their friends all across the world.

I truly believe that any topic can be fun to learn and easy to teach using this invaluable tool.

As an official TLI trainer I focus on the use of mind mapping and iMindmap software in both professional and personal ways. Mindmapping as a tool, not a goal!
